Tim answers:

I agree that JustinGuitar.com is pretty decent, but you might want to go to a music store and pick up book 1 of a good guitar lesson series like Alfred or MelBay. Just jumping around Youtube looking for free lesson videos is not a good way to learn guitar. The best thing, of course, is to take lessons from a good teacher so you get direct feedback and motivation to practice from week to week. You should really avoid the "tabs & stuff" until you learn the basics first. Learning to play guitar is really much more than just looking at a picture that shows where to put your fingers to play a certain chord or song. I've been playing and teaching guitar for over 35 years and, while there are a lot of great resources online now, those should be supplemental to a good lesson series and, preferably, a good teacher.

How to learn to play guitar quickly and easily while having fun?

I have wanted to play the guitar all my life. My parents got me a guitar a couple years ago, and some books. I have tried maybe three different forms of lessons, all start off at different places. Where is the best place to start when learning to play? Also, got some money now, any advice on some good software or book (idiot proof) to teach me how to play? I really do want to learn this, I'm just kinda overwhelmed. Any other advice welcome please.

Like I told Rachel Play well with others!

You will improve 10 times as fast playing and practicing with another, then you will sitting at home in your room alone.

Try to find someone who's a better guitarist, if they can put up with you, and get together to sing songs, write music..etc..at least once a week.

It's also very important that you FORCE yourself to sit down everyday with the express purpose of practicing.

Some days you may not feel up to it, but if you force yourself..if only for 15 minutes a day, you'll find the time stretching into an hour or more.

Learn a minimum of 3-4 different ways to play each chord. This will involve partial or whole bar chords up and down the neck, but will give you a great understanding of the fret board.

For example, if someone is playing the standard G chord 3-2-0-0-0-3 realize that you can play a little 3 string G chord up at the 7th fret, that's shaped like the normal D chord
x-x-x-7-8-7

I know this sounds boring, but learn the Pentatonic Blues scale, and finally...find someway to record yourself...this is an invaluable tool for hearing areas of your playing that need more work.

Best of luck..guitarist of over 30 years

The classical guitar.

The classical guitar is an acoustic guitar. It is light, a wide neck, flat handle twelve boxes away from the table. The nylon strings are: (G, B, E), multiple nylon fibers surrounded by bronze for the three (E, A, D)

Folk guitars.

Folk guitar is an acoustic guitar, more massive, with six metal strings. The two are simply the finest steel, the Big Four have a steel core surrounded by a bronze wire. The fingerboard is slightly curved and generally has fourteen boxes away from the table.

The term seems to have spread in French in the 1970s. In other countries too, the term has been extended to the folk and traditional music. There are three kinds of folk guitars: the dreadnoughts, with enough body shapes squares, jumbo, with a body much more rounded shapes and auditoriums which is a compromise of the other two.

10 of of the most common beginners mistake make on guitar. Read on and see if you are doing it right now.

First of all: you can not enumerate all the mistakes here that can make a beginner to learn to play the guitar. Therefore, we'll try to focus on typical rookie mistakes that are committed by most.

Mistake No. 1: You want to learn guitar but you do not play! - Practice makes perfect! Therefore, it is very important to stay tuned and practice.

Mistake No. 2: You are impatient! - This error is based on the first error. They start practicing, see the first effects, but somehow it is not good enough. They want everything perfect control and play guitar perfectly by tomorrow. You can not. Break free from such thoughts and you will notice over time that you are getting better.

Mistake No. 3: You play too fast! - Increase the speed only when you can play a piece correctly. Do not be impatient.

Mistake No. 4: Excuse your mistakes! - Mistakes are not bad. But you should learn from mistakes. If you notice an error, or your teacher tells you "this or that was wrong", then there is no greater waste of time than to start then with excuses like "Well, actually I wanted to ..." and the same. Do not fret. Can you spot the mistakes and focus again.

Mistake 5: You are planning a no repeats! - Straight to learn an instrument takes a lot of patience and above all also repetition. If you have understood something not equal, discard it immediately. Sometimes is called the wow-factor after repeated x times. But it is important here not to forget that the repetition and practice to implement both theoretically and practically.

Mistake 6: You learn to listen to! - What is meant? Well, you get to a point where you proudly say, "Wow, now I really can!". Congratulations! But you learn to play guitar his life long. You must stay focused to improve. If you stop practicing, nothing going to happen.

Mistake 7: You concentrate on two things! - In the beginning it is very hard for both hands to work together. To learn a new skill such as rhythm you only do thing at the same time - or maybe learning a new chord. This is very important! Later on you will be doing both together.

Mistake No. 8: You want to learn too much at once! - Do not skip the individual learning steps. Otherwise you risk learning the right way. So, every small step is important, even if he seems to be unimportant.

Mistake 9: You practice too long! - Practice not too long is not any good try for every other day per 15 minutes when only 2 hours a week. This is for beginners only.

Mistake 10: You play too fast! - Many beginners have the problem that you have no tact. Only you can not expect miracles. Again, practice makes perfect. However, since in many beginners this feeling is not present, you often tend to play too fast, or faster to be. You can avoid from the beginning, where you count when practicing always loud.

Good luck and joy to learn the guitar!
